ASA:Edmonton AGM 2018

It's been another big year for the ASA!
Come to the annual general meeting mini-conference for a summary of what the ASA did in 2017/18, and a preview of what's in the works for 2018/19.

  • Doors & Refreshments at 6:30, Presentations begin at 7:00, post AGM social at 8:30

Executive Positions
Nominations are now open for the 2018/19 Executive and Board

We're especially looking for Board Members from the general public and indigenous communities. If you have experience and ideas to share, we want them.  Several executive and board members will be moving on or taking on new roles this year.

Our business meetings are on the 1st Thursday of each month.

Executive Roles Elected at the AGM

  • President: ex officio member of all committees, preside over meetings, charged with the general affairs of the society, calls board meetings.
  • Vice President: Presides over meetings in the president's absence, assists in general affairs and organization of events.
  • Secretary: attend all meetings of the Society and the Board, take notes or minutes of all meetings, have charge of the seal, manage correspondence, send out monthly emails with past meeting minutes, notice of meetings, meeting agendas. Formally responsible for membership records & dues (with support of Membership Secretary).
  • Treasurer: receive & deposit all monies, account for the funds of the society & keep books, present an audited statement at the Annual Meeting.
  • Directors (3): vote at board meetings, participating in control and management of the business and affairs of the society, attend board meetings at least once every three months.
  • Auditors (2): Audit & approve financial statements in March 2018.
Volunteer Positions
  • ASA Executive Committee Rep: Member of the Provincial Society Board, direct the activities of the Provincial ASA, Attend Provincial ASA meeting (3 per year), Attend ASA:Edmonton Exec meetings, Liaise between Provincial Society and Centre.
  • Membership Secretary: Assist the Secretary by collecting membership registrations and dues at events, keeping membership records up to date.
  • Speaker Series Chair: Organize annual speaker series, communicate and coordinate with speakers for each event, introduce speakers
  • Edmonton Archaeology News editor: Compile and distribute monthly archaeology news and announcements, write reports of ASA events and activities.
  • Book Table / Fundraising Chair: Manage book table at events, track and report sales to Treasurer, look for additional fundraising opportunities.
  • Facebook Editor: Post official ASA facebook announcements, seek out and share archaeology news and other content that may be of interest to membership.

Other Volunteer Opportunities
  • Organization Liaisons: Are you a member of another heritage organization (UAAU, AGAS, MASS, EDHC, another ASA Centre, university department, etc.) and can formally act as a Liaison between our organizations?
  • Social media editors: Are you a Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram or snapchat junkie?
  • Speaker Series A/V Tech: Do you know how to record, edit and distribute podcasts or youtube videos?
  • Event Organizers: Plan and organize a workshop or other event for SAS members
  • Information table volunteers: volunteer to provide information about the SAS, ASA and Alberta archaeology at SAS and other events
  • Conference volunteers: Many volunteers needed to help plan and run speaker session, poster session, and other conference events in April 2018.
